Benefits of the Jump Rope

I have found the jump rope to be one of the most effective forms of fitness. Because the movement is so intense, the exercise is best categorized as anaerobic, rather than aerobic. However, I have discovered that jump rope training has boosted my aerobic fitness as well, in areas such as jogging, cycling and StairMaster.

The benefits of jump rope would also include the results of new research that show a few quick bursts of intense cardio activity can substitute for longer, steady-state cardio activities. In any event, the body can benefit from both interval training and endurance training.

Slow But Steady Progress

I have been surprised by how challenging it is to learn new jump rope skills, let alone "tricks." Here is Keva Silversmith's jump rope progress after five months, and here is Keva Silversmith's jump rope skill at eight months.

I have a new video up showing Keva Silversmith's jump rope skills after 11 months of practice.

Graphing jump rope progress

While basic movements come quickly, the amount of time required to learn each advancing trick grows exponentially longer.
